Programs and Divisions

   

U7 (2017-2019)

U7 is for players aged 4, 5 and 6 years old.  Players will receive 2 one hour ice sessions per week, 1 hour during the week and 1 hour on the weekend. 

This program is designed to develop basic skills (skating) and build confidence. A progressive, learn to play program where children will learn through practice drills and skill sessions – puck control, passing and shooting are introduced and refined one step at a time.

 

U9 (2015/2016)

U9 is for players aged 7 and 8 years old.  Players will receive 2 one hour ice sessions per week, 1 hour during the week and 1 hour on the weekend.  

This program is a progressive learn to play technique curriculum for 7 and 8 year olds. Through practice drills and skill sessions, as well as informal games, players will improve on basic skills (skating, puck control, passing and shooting) and build confidence through a fun and positive environment. Half ice games begin December 1st and continue to the end of the season.

 

U11 (2013/2014)

U11 Recreation (C) League is a recreational program for players aged 9 and 10 years old involving a range of skills and levels of play.  Teams are more balanced and geared towards fair play.  Players will receive 1 practice weekly and 1 game on the weekend (may not always be a home game).  Teams will play in the Annapolis Valley League against other local minor hockey associations and travel is mainly local, within the Western region of the province. 

U11 Competitive / Rep League is a fast-paced, competitive level of hockey for players aged 9 and 10 years old that offers players a challenge.  Rep hockey has different divisions (AA, A, B) and players interested must go through the tryout process.  Competitive hockey is more of a commitment and could include more practices and off-ice training.  Rep teams will play in the Scotia Minor Hockey League and travel more to compete with other teams, possibly on a provincial level. This could involve tournament play and or exhibition play.  Parents should be prepared to pay more for Rep hockey to cover the additional ice time and travel, also keeping in mind expenses for gas, hotels, food, etc.

* Mandatory Hockey Nova Scotia Checking Clinic is required for any new U15 players (U13 moving up to U15 for the 2023/24 season) or any players who wish to play contact hockey in the 2023/24 season.  It is recommended that even if you plan to register for non-contact hockey (C level), you may wish to take the clinic to be considered as an affiliate player.  If your player attends a checking clinic with another association, proof of attendance must be forwarded to YCMHA.  Players must have their Hockey Canada Profile updated with the Checking Clinic to be approved for contact hockey. 

 

U18 (2006-2008)
